February Hearts (Nat’l Haiku Writing Month)

Until yesterday I was unaware that February is National Haiku Writing Month—http://www.nahaiwrimo.com/  Click the link if you’re interested, as there is plenty of info which I won’t copy here.  The basic challenge is to write a haiku each day of February…so I’ll just confine myself to “basic” 🙂

February hearts

Flying as kites unaware

Snow flurries yet waft

Winter Seagulls

Early morn, gray sixth day

Of new year and decade

‘Brisk breeze’, understatement

More probably winter wind’s warning

Lest Christmas sans snowflakes

(Mild temps, mere rain—torrents)

Blur sleepy common sense ‘neath

Hoods tied tight, make us complacent

Dreaming cherry trees greening…

On unsettled pewter sky

Seagulls’ chaotic formation

Draws attention, they’re cavorting

Like origami bird kites in spring

Raucous winged puppets pulled by

Wild wishes’ invisible strings
