Fabric of Love

(131 words)

Before everything to come

You were my strong denim fabric

Armor keeping me safe

From elements…wind, freezing

Rain, raging summer heat lightning

Airless nights’ bad dreams

Evil never spoken of

Deceit in silent glances…

Virus hit, world’s stitches came

Loose…and you, heart’s

Denim fabric, unraveled too…

Death spread, left spirits

To fly faraway

Dear face I tender stroked

Became mask of fear

I tried calling passion back, to

Singe you with my touch that

Once locked us together for hours

Virus stole everything we might

Sell before value was appraised

Mute tears fall, caught in

Fabric of your van Gogh mask

You’ve never weakened before

How do I comfort, strengthen

Muffled voice repeating bleaks?

I grasp, shake your shoulders, say

“No! we’ll NOT lose love

I refuse to give it up!”

Refuge (A to Z Challenge)

Running to God, He’s my refuge ~ fortress of strength, solace, sustenance for:

Every least, greatest need~ When life’s standing hard on my last nerve, I run to His heart’s refuge of grace

Fears winding, twining mind like vines~ His refuge is power, cuts through them like butter, with sword of the Spirit, His Word

Unpleasantness which I must face~ He holds my hand; His presence is refuge of courage, confidence

Grudges old, new, that I fail to release~ I run to refuge of His throne for mercy; love which transforms from glory to glory, as I behold the Savior

Enemies may rise up small, or taller in my eyes; each battle is the Lord’s, not mine.  His refuge locks ’round, guarding me, when His mighty name I call.
